"BJ" SETTERS |

HISTORY |
HISTORY Our first show English setter was obtained as a companion to our field setter. Never having shown a dog in conformation before, BJ only committed to showing in obedience while allowing the breeder to show her in conformation. However, at her first match, she won first place and that was it. The year was 1978 and we have been showing English setters ever since. That first bitch turned out to be our foundation bitch, CH. BrambleBush PeanutButter CD, sired by CH. Guys ‘N Dolls Cool Hand Luke and out of CH. Palomar’s Sadie Dew, CD, and bred by Charlene Kickbush DVM & Laurie Conlon. She went on to produce 15 champions, including our first homebred champion, CH. BJ’s Strawberry Jam CD, and our first homebred group winner, CH. BJ’s Ultimate Sunrise CD. Our second dog, also sired by CH. Guys ‘N Dolls Cool Hand Luke, was CH. Palomar’s Artful Dodger, CD, TD. He was our first group winner, owner handled no less, and the first champion English setter to earn his Tracking Dog (T.D.) title. Since then, we have bred and/or owned more than 50 champions. Along the way we have had group placing dogs, although we rarely seriously special a dog, including CH. BJ’s Suthernheir Bluebird, CH. BJ’s Clown Troupe, CH. BJ’s Rafiki, CH. BJ's Premier Sunrise, and CH. BJ's Cowboy Cadillac, J.H., all breeder &/or owner handled. Kristen grew up showing English setters and English Springer Spaniels. She has semi-professionally handled dogs. At 10 years of age, she finished her first English setter, CH. BJ's Clown Troupe. Along the way, this team won the futurity class at the ESAA national, and in a limited specials career, put a group placement on Trouper. Her latest special dog is CH. BJ's Cowboy Cadillac, JH, sired by our tricolor dog CH. BJ's Watch The Birdie, JH. We make every effort to produce dogs not only with correct conformation but also correct type, good temperaments, and good health. We try to ensure that all breeding stock is clear of hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and has been BAER tested normal for hearing. |
